What this site collects

When you join, Beauty Goon News stores your email address, where the signup came from, and the time you joined. When you ask Ryan a question, the site stores your name, email address, question, and submission time. The site also keeps aggregate counts of page opens, News reads, join actions, signups, and affiliate-link clicks. Those counts do not include IP addresses, device IDs, user-agent strings, or referrers.

How it is used

Signup information is used to send Beauty Goon News emails. Questions are used so Ryan can reply; asking a question does not add you to the mailing list. Newsletter signup information is sent to Kit, our email delivery service, to manage subscriptions and deliver emails. The site also keeps a local record of signups, unsubscribe requests, and whether the email service confirmed them.

Cookies and video

When a signup form is shown, the site sets a first-party cookie that lives for fifteen minutes and only ties that form to your browser. It does not create a public account, store a password, or remember that you joined. Aggregate analytics are stored by Beauty Goon News rather than an advertising network, and the site honors browser Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals for click events. YouTube previews use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player and may connect to YouTube when the preview enters view.

Affiliate links

Some shopping links are affiliate links. Ryan may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Recommendations remain Ryan’s own. Following a shopping link takes you to an affiliate service or retailer, which handles its own cookies, purchase information, and privacy practices.

Storage and retention

Render hosts the website and its stored data. Daily aggregate analytics are retained for 120 days. Signup and question records currently remain stored until removed; unsubscribe records are retained to help prevent further marketing sends. Kit maintains its own subscription and delivery records. The site and these services may process information outside your country.

Your choices

To stop receiving GOONmail, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email; Kit removes you from the list right away. To have your signup or question records deleted, write to ryan@beautygoon.com from the address you used.
